Granular sulphur

S

Granular sulphur is solid sulphur formed from molten refinery sulphur into uniform granules. It produces less dust than crushed sulphur and is easier to store, handle and load in bulk.

Also known as: Granulated sulphur, formed sulphur

Sourcing and our role

We source granular sulphur from state and private refineries, through the commodity exchange in Iran or by direct supply. Supply through the exchange depends on what is offered there at the time; it is not a guaranteed allocation.

Form and grades

Granule shape and size depend on the forming process of each refinery. For bulk shipment and melting plants, uniform sizing and a low share of fines matter.

What to check before buying

  • Sulphur purity
  • Ash
  • Moisture
  • Acidity
  • Organic matter (carbon)
  • Size distribution and fines

These figures depend on grade, producer and lot. They are read from the certificate of analysis of the lot offered, not from this page.

Uses

  • Sulphuric acid production, the largest use of sulphur
  • Phosphate fertilizer manufacturing, through sulphuric acid
  • Feedstock for sulphur grinding and sulphur fertilizer plants

Specifications and delivery

Grade, packaging, quantity and delivery terms are confirmed against the producer’s analysis and your enquiry.

Questions buyers ask

How does granular sulphur differ from powdered sulphur?

The material is the same; the physical form differs. Granular sulphur comes as uniform, low-dust granules suited to bulk shipment and melting. Powdered sulphur is ground to a defined fineness and is used where sulphur has to be mixed directly into soil or other materials.

Does supply through the commodity exchange mean guaranteed availability?

No. Volume and timing are set by the seller on the exchange. For each enquiry we check the route, exchange or direct supply, and what is available at that time.
